چکیده

Purpose To assess the potential benefit of impregnating Merocel (a non-absorbable nasal dressing) with a topical steroid solution, for use as direct and slow local delivery system steroids after sinus surgery to improve postoperative wound healing. Methods In this randomized controlled trial, 40 patients bilateral chronic rhinosinusitis polyposis were subjected functional endoscopic surgery. Following completion surgery, packs inserted in cavities infiltrated 4 mL triamcinolone (40 mg/mL) one cavity (treatment group) normal saline other (control group). Nasal removed on third day healing assessment was done Weeks 1, 2, 4, 12. The findings noted per Lund Kennedy (LKES) perioperative endoscopy (POSE) scores compared both sides. Results Significant (P < 0.05) improvement score crusting polyp at Week 12, edema discharge 1 but there no significant scarring any week. Overall, difference between treatment control arms statistically all visits except 4. Also, POSE 12 not Conclusion This study positively concludes that packed drug-soaked had less period overall much better saline-soaked packs.

Hemostatic effect of hot saline irrigation during functional endoscopic sinus surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND The endoscopically magnified operative field in functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) makes even a small amount of bleeding a potentially significant hindrance. It is thought that irrigation with hot saline during surgery may improve surgical field of view by producing a hemostatic effect. Our objective was to assess the effectiveness of hot saline irrigation (HSI) compared to r...

A double-blind randomised controlled trial of gloved versus ungloved merocel middle meatal spacers for endoscopic sinus surgery.

BACKGROUND Middle meatal spacers are commonly used following endoscopic sinus surgery to prevent post-operative bleeding and lateralization of the middle turbinates. The effects of nasal packing on post-operative sinonasal mucosal healing remain unknown in humans. OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare the histopathalogical effects of Merocel and Merocel covered with a finger glove on mucosal h...

Revision endoscopic sinus surgery: the St. Paul's Sinus Centre experience.

OBJECTIVE To determine the most common findings in patients undergoing revision endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) presenting to a tertiary rhinology centre. It is our aim that by identifying these findings, the common pitfalls in primary ESS can be avoided to prevent the necessity for revision ESS. METHODS The findings of 73 cases of revision ESS from July 2006 to March 2007 presenting to the St...
